i C&Ped up this info from mostly NISSAN'S history web sites.

Also the Z would not likely be around today if it wasn’t for the skyline.

The first skyline was built in 1957 by the Prince Motor co. in 1963 the 2nd gen skyline was built and had an optional I6 1988 cc motor that had a 2 year or 30k KM warranty, the GT-B was out in 65 and the GTR after that. In 1966,Nissan merged with Prince Motor Co., Ltd., bringing the Skyline (it’s I6 ) and Gloria models to Nissan’s product lineup. Prince Motor Co. had also licensed motors and technology from Mercedes. Up to then all Nissan had was i4s. from there it grew to what we have today, the g35 coup and sedan

The maxima evolved from the bluebird (AKA the “X dime” series in the states, 310, 410 all the way up to 910) just like the way the supra evolved from the celica.

La-Z-Link
it was based off of the blue birds maxed out trim package of the 910(IE
MAXima). the next gen was the first FF version. So up to 88 the bluebird was a Maxima then it became the altama here. The Maxima had graduated to it’s own platform. the New JDM counter part was called the Cefiro and was the first if the A series of body codes. La-Z-Link then in 04 they are now built here and the Cefiro is dead. Which looks like the Teana will fill the spot of the Cefiro.
